CGI Window Installation: The Jacksonville Owner’s Guide
CGI window installation in Jacksonville typically runs $850 to $1,900 per window installed, depending on the series, size, and whether the frame comes out or stays in the opening. We stock CGI-compatible replacement windows and hardware on our trucks, and in most cases we can have a failed unit out and a new one sealed in within the same visit. The way most Jacksonville homeowners find us is simple: a window that won’t close square after a storm, a frame that’s pulling away at the corners, or glass that fogged between the panes and never cleared up.
CGI builds impact windows engineered for Florida’s wind codes, and Jacksonville’s salt air and humidity test every seal, gasket, and channel. When a CGI unit fails, it’s rarely the glass. It’s the installation around it – or a part that wore out long before the frame did. Elliot Vance has measured, fit, and installed CGI products across Jacksonville for years, from San Marco bungalows to newer builds along the Southside corridor, and the failure patterns here are consistent: thermal seals break down faster near the coast, and installation errors from the original build show up in the first two to three years.
We’re an independent Jacksonville installer. Meridian Windows and Doors is not affiliated with CGI, but we’re authorized to install and replace their products, and we keep the most common CGI replacement parts on the truck so we’re not making two trips.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
CGI’s window line breaks into two families: the Estate Collection and the Sentinel Collection. Estate units are the vinyl-frame impact windows found in a lot of Jacksonville homes built after 2005. Sentinels are the heavy-duty aluminum-frame units you see on waterfront properties in Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, and along the Intracoastal, where the wind-borne debris codes are strictest.
The compatibility gotcha with CGI is the glazing bead. CGI uses a proprietary bead profile on several Estate series units, which means a generic aftermarket bead will not seat correctly and the window will not seal. We spec OEM CGI beads and gaskets on those units rather than rolling the dice with a universal part. On Sentinel aluminum frames, the more common wear item is the corner key and the meeting-rail interlock, and quality aftermarket equivalents from anodized aluminum stock work fine if they’re machined to the same tolerance.
To identify your unit, check the corner of the sash or the spacer bar between the glass panes. CGI laser-etches a series code and date into the spacer on most models. If the etching is too faint to read, the glass thickness is the next tell: CGI Estate units run 5/16″ laminated glass, while Sentinel units are 9/16″ laminated or 1-3/16″ laminated for the largest openings. Take a photo of the full window and the frame corner before you call. It saves a trip.
Signs Your CGI Window Installation Is Failing
- Fog or condensation between the panes. The thermal seal on the insulated glass unit has failed, which is the most common CGI issue in Jacksonville’s humidity. Once the desiccant inside the spacer bar saturates, the fog doesn’t clear, and the only real fix is a new IGU.
- The sash won’t close flush, or it binds halfway. This is usually a worn balance shoe or a failed pivot bar on a single-hung or double-hung CGI unit. Jacksonville’s temperature swings cause repeated expansion and contraction, and the plastic components inside the jamb wear out faster than homeowners expect.
- Water staining on the interior drywall or sill. This typically points to a failed installation flange or a sealant joint that let go where the original installer lapped the weather-resistant barrier. It’s not the window leaking – it’s the connection between the window and the house.
- You can feel air moving through the frame on a windy day. The jamb weatherstripping or the interlock between the sashes has compressed. CGI’s interlock tolerances are tight; once they wear, the window loses the air-seal that was part of its design spec.
- The window is noticeably harder to open than it was last year. Salt air corrodes the aluminum track on CGI units within a few miles of the coast, and the build-up acts like sandpaper on the roller or balance system. Lubrication helps for a month; replacement is the actual fix.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what CGI window installation costs in Jacksonville, based on the units we’ve priced and installed across Duval County over the past several years.
- Replacement insulated glass unit (IGU) in an existing CGI frame: $425 – $750 per window installed
- Full replacement Estate Collection window: $850 – $1,300 per window installed
- Full replacement Sentinel Collection window: $1,300 – $1,900 per window installed
- Balance shoe, pivot bar, or weatherstripping replacement: $180 – $340 per window installed
- Frame corner re-seal and flashing repair (installation fix, not a new window): $400 – $800 per window
The price is written down before any work starts, and it doesn’t move at the door. Every price includes the part, the labor to remove and reset the window, the sealant, and haul-away of the old unit. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work in writing: if a repair or installation fails within the first year, we come back at no charge. Most single-window replacements take a half day from setup to final walkaround.
We stock the most common CGI replacement parts on the truck, but a full Sentinel unit with custom laminated glass leads out at two to three weeks from order to install. We’ll tell you that timeline upfront, not after you’ve signed.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely check yourself: read the etching on the spacer bar or the corner of the sash to get your series code, take clear photos of the full window and the failed area, and check whether the problem is in the glass, the frame, or the hardware. Knowing what you’re looking at before you call helps us quote accurately and bring the right part.
Here’s where DIY goes wrong on CGI units: laminated impact glass is heavy, and a sash that comes out of the track can drop hard enough to hurt you or destroy the frame. The sealant bond on an impact-rated unit matters; a bead that’s under-applied or applied to a dirty substrate will fail in the first Florida downpour. And if an installation wasn’t flashed correctly the first time, no amount of caulk from a tube will fix the issue. The water is getting in behind the siding, not through the visible crack.
If the frame, the glass, or the flashing is involved, call us at (904) 513-9670. The estimate is free, and you’ll know what the number is before any work starts. Measure twice, quote once – everything after that is just showing up.
FAQs
CGI frames themselves are built to last 30 years or more, but the thermal seal on the insulated glass typically fails in 12 to 18 years in Jacksonville’s humidity, and sooner within a few miles of the coast. Hardware like balance shoes and weatherstripping often needs replacement in the 8 to 12 year range. Call (904) 513-9670 and a technician can tell you whether your unit is at the end of its life or just needs a part.
Yes, in most cases. If the frame is square and the problem is a failed IGU, worn balance shoe, or compressed weatherstripping, we replace the part and leave the frame in place. We only recommend full replacement when the frame has corroded or the installation flashing has failed and water has been getting into the wall. We’ll show you why we’re recommending one over the other before you spend anything.
Most single-window replacements in Jacksonville are done in a half day, including tear-out, setting the new unit, sealing, and haul-away. A full-frame replacement with flashing repair may run to a full day. If we have to order a custom Sentinel unit, expect two to three weeks from order to install, and we’ll tell you that date in writing.
We keep the most common CGI replacement parts on our trucks in Jacksonville: balance shoes, pivot bars, glazing beads, weatherstripping, and standard Estate IGUs. Custom laminated Sentinel glass and full Sentinel frames are ordered to spec from CGI and take two to three weeks. Call (904) 513-9670 with your series code and we can tell you whether we have your part with us or need to pull it.
If you have a CGI window that’s fogged, binding, leaking, or just won’t close square anymore, call Meridian Windows and Doors at (904) 513-9670 for a free estimate. We’ll put the number in writing before any work starts, and we’ll stand behind the install in writing for a full year.
